17th Annual Meeting of the IEEE/ACM International Symposium on
Modelling, Analysis and Simulation of Computer and Telecommunication Systems

The MASCOTS conference is a well-established international forum for
state-of-the-art research on measurement, modelling and performance
analysis of computer systems and communication networks. The 17th annual
meeting of MASCOTS will be held at the South Kensington Campus of
Imperial College London, UK. The conference will bring together
academics and industry practitioners to present and discuss their latest
research results. The technical programme for the 3-day conference will
include keynote talks, refereed papers, and posters.

The fourth International workshop on Practical Applications of
Stochastic Modelling (PASM) will be held jointly with MASCOTS, on
September 24:

We encourage researchers world-wide to submit both theoretical and
practical results of significance which have not been published
elsewhere. The conference proceedings for MASCOTS 2009 will be published
by the IEEE Computer Society.

PAPERS

MASCOTS 2009 seeks original technical papers describing research in the
areas of computer systems and network performance evaluation. The scope
of the symposium includes, but is not limited to:

Submissions may be up to 10 pages in length (including figures and
references), formatted in two-column IEEE conference style with font
size no less than 10 point. All papers will be peer-reviewed by at least
three members of the program committee. We will not accept any paper
which, at the time of submission, is under review for or has already
been published or accepted for publication in any other conference or
journal. Accepted papers for MASCOTS 2009 will appear in the conference
proceedings published by the IEEE Computer Society. Authors of
highly-ranked papers may be invited to submit extended versions of their
work to appropriate IEEE or ACM journals.

POSTERS
Posters provide a forum for late-breaking or preliminary research
results, giving an opportunity for researchers and practitioners to
present and demonstrate their recent work, and to obtain feedback from
their peers in an informal setting. Material submitted as a full paper
may also be submitted as a poster paper; if the full papers is accepted
the poster will not be considered. Poster paper submissions may be up to
two pages in length, excluding references, formatted as described in the
submission page. Accepted poster papers will be allocated up to three
pages in the conference proceedings.

LOCATION
Imperial College's South Kensington campus is located in the heart of
the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, a quiet and green part of
the capital, yet close to several of London's major cultural landmarks.
Imperial is next door to the Natural History Museum, the Royal Albert
Hall, the Albert Memorial, the Science museum and the Victoria and
Albert museum. Hyde Park, Kensington Palace and Harrods are a short walk
away. London's other major attractions, including Buckingham Palace, the
Palace of Westminster, the West End and Covent Garden can be reached in
a few minutes by bus, tube (metro) or taxi.

Vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs) using all kinds of wireless
technologies has recently received considerable attention. The goal of
this special issue is to explore the development of wireless vehicular
ad hoc network technologies about communication, networking, and
applications. A good communication protocol design can achieve highly
reliable, highly scalable, and high performance. In aspect of
networking, there are many challenges that how to offer quality of
service, build high performance routing, provide mobility management,
and create secure vehicular ad hoc networks. VANET safety applications
include safety warnings and collision avoidance. This is imperious to
improve the non-safety applications and reduce the occurrence of
collision. VANETs present a highly active field of research,
development, standardization and field trials. Throughout the world,
there are many national/international projects in government, industry,
and academia devoted to VANETs, for example consortia like VSC (US),
C2CCC (Europe) and InternetITS (Japan), standardization efforts like
IEEE 802.11p (WAVE) and field trials like the large-scale Vehicle
Infrastructure Integration Program (VII) in the US. The special issue
solicits high-quality theoretical as well as practical works on a broad
range of issues important to the communication, networking, and
applications for vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs). Topics of interest
include but are not limited to following:

- Safety and non-safety applications

- Roadside-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-vehicle communication

- Communication protocol design

- Channel modeling

- Modulation and coding

- Power control and scalability issues

- Multi-channel organization and operation

IEEE PerCom, now in its seventh year, is the premier scholarly venue in
the areas
of pervasive computing and communications, which aim at providing a
ubiquitous
platform for supporting exciting anytime and anyplace services paradigms.
Pervasive computing and communications is a natural outcome of the
tremendous
advances of a broad spectrum of technologies including wireless and
sensor
networks, mobile and distributed computing, and agent technologies.
PerCom 2009
will provide a high profile, leading edge forum for researchers and
engineers
alike to present state-of-the-art research in the respective fields of
pervasive
computing and communications. The conference will feature a diverse
mixture of
presentation forums including core technical sessions, several
targeted workshops,
demonstrations, keynote speeches and panel discussions from domain

conference will take place in Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, one of the

and a Work-in-Progress Session.

PerCom 2009 Submission Guidelines:
Submitted papers must be unpublished and not considered elsewhere for
publication.
Papers must show a significant relevance to pervasive computing and
networking.
Only electronic submissions in PDF will be considered. The page limit
is 10 IEEE
conference proceedings format 2-column pages (including references,
figures and tables,
at least 11pt font). Detailed electronic submission procedures will be

http://www.percom.org. All submitted papers will undergo a rigorous
review process
managed by the technical program committee. IEEE Press will publish
the conference
proceedings. The best paper will receive the prestigious Mark Weiser
best paper award.
Papers of particular merit will be considered for a special issue of

Nowadays, there is a clear steep growth in research interests in
wireless and mobile communication systems as an inexpensive and
promising means for ubiquitous communications. Mobile broadband wireless
is an important sub-area of this research, which focuses on enabling
physical layer technologies to support third generation as well as
future broadband mobile systems. Even though this sub-area holds
great promises for our future, there are several challenges that need to

* Conference background and goals
IADIS Telecommunications, Networks and Systems 2008 conference covers
theory, design
and application of computer and telecommunication networks and systems.
During recent
years there has been an impressive increase in the use of networked
applications and
networks are now key resources in any information system configuration.
Wireless and
fixed-line networks complemented by a growing range of mobile devices
are having a
significant impact on the way we run our lives and our businesses.

* Format of the Conference
The conference will comprise of invited talks and oral presentations.
The proceedings of the conference will be published in the form of a
book and CD-ROM with ISBN, and will be available also in the IADIS
Digital Library (http://www.iadis.net/dl).
The best paper authors will be invited to publish extended versions of
their papers in a special issue of the IJBDCN - International Journal of
Business Data Communications and Networking (ISSN: 1548-0631).

CfP for special issue on "Pervasive User-Generated Content" -- IEEE Pervasive Computing Magazine

May 1, 2008 is the submission due date for papers on aspects of
"Pervasive User-Generated Content", a special issue of IEEE Pervasive
Computing Magazine. We are looking for papers that discuss the collection,
processing, presentation, and evaluation of data collected by regular
users with pervasive technology. Example topics include:

o Networked data-gathering from large populations
o Data mining and machine learning from distributed sources
o Tracking multitudes of everyday objects
o Mashups and overlays of user data with other artifacts such as maps
o Contributions from mobile users
o Aggregating and filtering pervasive ratings and reviews
o Users as computing platforms and intelligent data sources
o Games and other schemes for gathering data from large populations
o Persuading individuals to contribute
o Usability aspects for efficient data contribution
o Visualizing user contributions
o Applications and displays of pervasively generated content
o Techniques for determining authenticity of contributed data
o Evaluations of pervasively generated content

All submitted papers will be peer-reviewed, and the issue's editors
will decide which ones are published.
