[Applied Soft Computing] Special issue on Soft Computing Techniques for Wireless Systems]

***********************************************************************************************
APPLIED SOFT COMPUTING
The Official Journal of the World Federation on Soft Computing (WFSC)
Impact Factor in 2008: 1.909

CALL FOR PAPERS
Special Issue "Soft Computing Approaches in the design of energy-efficient
wireless systems"
***********************************************************************************************

In the last decade, the demand for radio spectrum resources in
telecommunications systems has grown dramatically. Both the increasing
number of users and the diverse variety of demanded services, have
motivated the research community (both academic and industrial) to focus
their research efforts on different techniques allowing for a more
efficient use of the available resources in each particular scenario:
mobile phone communications, densely-deployed sensor networks, etc. In the
past, many of the studies in this trend have concentrated on
simplicity-based solutions. Following this research area, the recently
coined "green technology" concept aims at optimizing the energy
consumption of communication devices by attempting to provide enhanced
battery autonomy at a minimum cost, not only to the operators themselves,
but also to the end users. Unfortunately, most of the proposed advances to
date are far from practicality.

To overcome this lack of implementable communication schemes, huge
research efforts are currently devoted to balance the trade-off between
performance and energy efficiency, from dynamic allocation of available
resources as a function of the network conditions/status to the design of
efficient network topologies, encoding, modulation, detection techniques
or, in general, any other complexity-aware data processing approaches
attaining near-optimal performance. Particularly, soft computing
approaches, such as bio-inspired algorithms, fuzzy systems or neural
computing, have emerged in the communications realm as powerful tools to
efficiently solve theoretically-intractable optimization issues in
communications. Such algorithmic methods become even more interesting by
virtue of their adaptability to highly-dynamic constraints as those shown
by mobile wireless networks.

This special issue tries to be a forum for scientists and engineers from
academia and industry to present their state-of-the-art research results
on this topic. High-quality contributions are solicited. Contributed
papers must be the original work of the authors and should not have been
published or under consideration by other journals. The Special Issue is
focused on Soft computing techniques (Evolutionary computation techniques,
Heuristics and Meta-heuristics algorithms, Fuzzy Systems, Neural networks,
Support Vector Machines, Hybrid algorithms etc.) in the design of
energy-efficient wireless networks.

Possible application topics considered are (but not limited to):

o Multiple user detection.
o Synchronization methods.
o Recent advances in joint sampling and compression algorithms (e.g.
Compressed Sensing).
o Channel estimation.
o Energy-efficient network topologies.
o (Dynamic) resource allocation.
o Data fusion techniques.
o Cross-layer synergies among physical and upper (e.g. network) layers.
o Implementation issues.
o Survivability and reliability.
o Protection and restoration.
o Quality of service.
o Network management.
o Congestion control.
o Simulation and queuing models.
o Other applications focussed on energy efficiency in telecommunication
networks.

[ICUFN2010] Deadline Extended (Mar. 1st, 2010)

ICUFN 2010
The Second International Conference on Ubiquitous and Future Networks
June 16-18, 2010, Jeju Island, Korea
http://www.icufn.org

General Information

During the last decade, we have witnessed fast developments of various
networking technologies, and many forms of networking are core parts
of our daily lives now. With the proliferation of future wireless
technologies and electronic devices, there is a fast growing interest
in ubiquitous and future networks. In the days to come, we expect
that the ubiquitous communication and networking technologies will become
ubiquitous along with the emergence of many future networking
technologies. The ubiquitous and future network will offer multiservice,
multimedia services convergence, mobility, service ubiquity and context
awareness, fixed-mobile convergence, quality of service, variable
connectivity, spontaneous networking, autonomic networking and other
capabilities as the norm. Building on the success of the First
International Conference on Ubiquitous and Future Networks (ICUFN 2009),
which took place in Hong Kong, June 2009, the Second International
Conference on Ubiquitous and Future Networks (ICUFN 2010) aims at
addressing advances in research on ubiquitous and future networks,
covering topics ranging from technology issues to applications and
test-bed developments. ICUFN 2010 solicits original, unpublished
contributions in all aspects of ubiquitous and future networking.
Submitted articles must not be concurrently considered elsewhere for

Special Issue on "Wireless
and Network Security"

We are living in communication age and use of latest technology in
the field of computer communication is offering many new services but at the
same time raising various security issues. Securing the computer communication
by keeping all the services available and cost effective is one of the major
challenges in this era.  Mobility is something that will be the
requirement of each and every type of network technology in coming few years.
So mobile communication adds more in the security issues and opens many doors
for the attacker to attack. Researchers all over the world are developing
solution to close those doors from where attacks can be launched. In short
providing security in computer communication (especially wireless
communication) is one of the major challenges of the current age.

This Special Issue aims to publish high quality, original,
unpublished research papers covering all

aspects related to Wireless and Network Security. In addition,
this Special Issue collects extended versions of accepted and presented papers
from First International Workshop on Wireless and Network Security (WNS 2010)
in Miyazaki, Japan.
